It is also the story of a simple rustic human being pursuing his fond dream of sharing his fortune with the less-fortunate and the needy in his society. It is the story of a man who revealed in the joy of giving.

 

From the World of Perfumery to Mahesh Bhatt’s Documentary “Torch Bearer” The story of a Philanthropist

In the early fifties of the last century Ajmal Ali, a young farmer of “Alinagar” was busy exploring the aromatic plant resources in Assam, especially at Hojai, a sleepy neighbourhood in the southern part of Nagaon district. His aim was to tap the huge commercial potential of the “agar’ plant. As luck would have it, his efforts were rewarded and he began to make his mark in the business of perfumery. By virtue of sincerity, honesty, integrity, good ethics, fair business practice and uncompromising faith on business values Ajmal Ali succeeded in building an empire in perfumery whose aroma pervades not only the Indian sub-continent but also the Arab world. Haji Ajmal Ali Saab’s phenomenal rise to fame and prosperity has made him a legend. But wealth and fortune could not deviate this simple and pious soul from his inner resolve to turn his attention to the plight of his fellow beings. He considered his fortune to be a gift of “Allah” to be used for alleviating the distress of his fellow beings. And thus, humanitarian and social activities became Haji Ajmal Ali Saab’s consuming passion which he tended to do with full devotion till the end of his life. Haji Ajmal Ali Saab has bequeathed a rich humanitarian legacy which is reflected in the many institutions and organizations that have flourished lately as a result of his endeavour and inspiring efforts. The HAMM (Haji Abdul Majid Memorial) Hospital and Research Centre is a living testimony to the humanitarian and benevolent spirit of Haji Ajmal Ali.

 

Haji Abdul Majid Memorial Hospital and Research Centre, was inaugurated in 1995 by Nobel laureate Reverend Mother Teresa. The hospital is poised for growth towards a full-fledged 350 bedded hospital and Medical College. Along with the phenomenal growth and expansion of AJMAL’s business activities there has been a concomitant interest in its myriad welfare and charitable activities. The realization of its social obligation has brought to the fore the importance of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and a host of developmental and welfare programmes have been taken up by the three main organizations of AJMAL CSR initiative, namely, HAMM Public Trust, AJMAL Foundation and Markazul Ma’arif.
